Recent technical issues
by Chr0n1x on Jan.30, 2009, under Website
Hi everyone,
Recently this blog gave a HTTP 500 Internal server error to anyone trying to view it. After speaking with my hosting company and a bit of debugging, I have fixed the issue and all is fine now.
The issue appears to have been with the WordPress Secret Key that you generate for the configuration. I am not sure why, but it caused this issue after working fine for a while, however generating a new one fixed it all up.
If you notice any more issues, feel free to contact me through my blog (http://mquandt.com/blog) or this blog.

Killer Core Preview
by Nemo Krad on Jan.22, 2009, under Games, Killer Core
OK, didn’t really want to do a clip of this yet, but Simon kind of put it up on the board, and well, I was doing a clip of how I had altered the DOG intro (not much I admit) and thought, what the hell, put a clip up of where I am with it… and here it is..
So, as you can see I am using the RandomChaos 3D Engine, and it’s a platform game. The idea for Killer Core came from an old Spectrum game I used to play and totally loved called Starquake, as you can see it’s quite similar. What I intend to do is make this a multi player game, you can play solo, but the aim is for a 4 player game of Killer Core. I know, the menu sux, my plan is to get all the bits in place then beautify them later, same with the logos, the model lol so much to do…
The game area is pretty big to, I think maybe to big for a 4 player game, might reduce the size. You can see how long it takes to fall from the top of the map to the bottom, and in the clip when panning out and I switch on th GGR box’s (blue box’s) it’s 60×60 at the moment, so might halve it. Guess Ill know once I have it networked and can roam around it with some friends..
So, the basic idea is, you have crash landed on a planet, you have to get off the planet before it explodes as it has an unstable core (see title lol). You leave the planet by building a teleporter, bits of which are found in and around the planet. You can stop other players from leaving before you by shooting them directly or laying traps (pick ups) that either kill them, slow them down or stop them from entering an area for a time. If you are left on the planet, and it self destructs, you are out of the game and don’t go to the next round. Escaping players do and land on another planet, with an even worse core (time gets shorter). Players who are out can comment on the on going game (not sure yet, I may let them lay the odd trap or two as well)
I have some concepts I drew up (yes, I know I should not be allowed near a pencil!). I’ll post them up on my next post about this project as well as some of my notes.

Dark Omen Games Intro I
by Nemo Krad on Jan.15, 2009, under News
Well as Simon (Darkside) has mentioned I have started work on a new game using my latest RC3D Engine. I have just put up my first attempt at an intro for us, let me know what you think.
Also, I’ll try and get a tech demo of my current project ASAP.

Hi and Howdy
by Darkside on Jan.12, 2009, under News
As Dark Omen Games newest member I’d Like to introduce myself a bit.
First, I’d also like to thank Chr0n1x for the new site, looks a lot more fresh and invigorating, erm , erm, erm, I’d also like to that those other people who didn’t create the site, Dave “DaphydtheBard” Donner, Charles “RandomChaos” Humphrey, oh, oh and that other one I can’t remember, Oh, Angelina Jolie. No it’s Jeremy Cook.
(Thanks to Kate “Blonde” Winslet, for the inspiration there
)
About me, you might as well read the first post in my new blog over at Blogspot, as I’m a bit tired now after writing all that.
As for the future, things are really looking up in Dark Omen Games and I’m really excited about the projects my peers have got running. I’ll be helping out with design reviews and some 3D modeling when called for.
As for my own projects, I’m bringing back an old game of mine called Hack-1 (from back in the beta XNA days), with hopefully a fresh new look and a change in direction. Charles has this crazy idea on how to network the game, so we’ll see what comes of that!
Right that’s my blog rant for the day over, here’s hoping for more of the same in months to come.
As a little sneak preview, Charles has already made great progress on his new game project, which is a great manic free for all game with lots of sneaky tactics to founder your opponents. I’m really excited about what I’ve seen so far. I’ll see if I can give him a nudge to get a tech preview done!
Who are we…….?

Thanks…
First of all I would like to thank Chr0n1x for setting up this blog, hope you can port all the old posts from the last one
Who & What?
So, who are Dark Omen Games and what do we do? Well as one of the founders I thought it apt if I at the very least tried to explain who and what we are.
We are a small group of friends who love to use DirectX, our primary weapon of choice is XNA. We have a number of blogs between us, even YouTube channels. I guess at the moment we are more of a think tank rather than a full on games development group. Though this year we (I) intend to change that a little, especially with the advent of the Xbox Live Community Games.
So I guess we will be aiming at games primarily at the Xbox 360, but we will also be creating games for the PC.
What do we have in the Pipeline?
Currently we have 2 3D engines in production; the RandomChaos 3D Engine (Nemo Krad) and the Anarchy Engine (Daphyd The Bard). Both engines are being created using XNA 3.0, the RC3D engine will; once complete, be released with full source code. You can already see the progress of the engine at my YouTube channel or on my blog. I am currently in the process of creating a game with the RC3D engine and hope to release it on XBLCG.
As to the Anarchy engine, I guess Daphyd would be best placed to tell you about it.
Over the next few months I hope to post updates on both the development of the RC3D engine and the game(s) I am creating with it.

So keep checking us out, and I hope you like the games we will be producing.

New Site
by Chr0n1x on Jan.02, 2009, under Website
Welcome to 2009, and the new blog. After a bit of a mess up with the old blog software, and the restrictions imposed on the free version, we at Dark Omen Games agreed to start again with different software, and this time do it right. So I present the new blog, powered by WordPress.
We are just finishing setting up, so expect the theme to change as we try to find something that fits, and hopefully with the new year, we can post more about what DOG is up to. Don’t forget to update your RSS, or if you are new to us, add us. You can find the RSS through the handy button near the top of the page.
On behalf of the rest of the team, welcome to the new site, and a new year for game development with Dark Omen Games.
